Avignon is located in the Provence region of southern France, on the banks of the Rhône River.
The city is located about 700 kilometers southeast of Paris and about 80 kilometers northwest of Marseille.
It is close to other famous cities in the region, such as Nimes, Arles and Aix-en-Provence. The A7 motorway runs through the city, making it easily accessible by car.
It also has a major train station, making it a major rail transport hub in the region.
The city has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Avignon is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, such as the Luberon Regional Nature Park and the mountains of the French Alps.
